Hey everyone! I realize that we haven’t even started talking about some of the content you guys have been waiting years for. Let’s get into it.

The United Kingdom has been one of the most languished and neglected trees in Millennium Dawn, to the point it’s almost a joke how long it took us to fix this. We have finally gotten to it, and coming to v2.0.0 near you, we will have a new tree. The United Kingdom is not our largest tree, and this is also our “Phase 1” version of the content.

As part of our new release cycle and team priorities, you will see more content trickle in over time for the nations as developers spend time on things after feedback and suggestions are passed back to us internally. Make sure to join our Discord to participate in those discussions if you are not already there!

Without further ado, let’s get right into the economic tree. It’s split into two major paths: either pivot fully into a post-industrial society, or revitalize the iron heart of the British economy. As you work through the various different parts of the economic tree, you’ll get various decisions, missions, and buffs to regions, as well as ways to stop the constituent countries from getting frustrated with Westminster.

The Economic Tree

Much like the mainlands the overseas territories also have investments that are required to improve them and make them a staple piece in the economic sphere for the United Kingdom. Furthermore, the Productivity Commission is also here which will allow you to revitalize the UK’s rail lines and help improve the productivity of the United Kingdom and modernize its aging infrastructure.

Now let’s move on to the political paths.

The United Kingdom has three “major” paths for the political atmosphere: Labour, the Tories, and the Monarchists. Each offers a plethora of content, and with at least three election cycles for Labour and the Tories, you will have plenty of options to take the United Kingdom the way you would like. The Labour Tree The Conservative Tree

The Monarchist tree features the inner circle mechanic from vanilla, flavored around the UK’s ruling dynasty while Queen Elizabeth II is alive. You can choose to promote and push some of the benefits towards specific family members, or deal with their scandals. Time will tell what happens with the crown and the people that surround the queen. The Monarchist Tree

Another addition to the United Kingdom is going to be Devolution!

How does Devolution work? What is Devolution? Well, here’s a crash course.

Each constituent country (Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) has its own autonomy, some more than others. Decisions, events, and focuses move three connected variables for each: Dependency, Agitation, and Nationalism.

Dependency is the big one. Three stages, steered mostly through the focus tree, where every region has a pro-devolution and an anti-devolution branch gated by your ruling party. The focuses unlock laws you pass as decisions, some of them permanent. Keep a constituent dependent and they stay part of the UK proper, paying back in shares of GDP, Commonwealth ties, and other perks. Devolve, and they slide through the autonomy levels as a puppet, then to independence.

Agitation is how worked up they are. It climbs when you cross them, cools off on its own, and drops fast if you ease their Dependency. However, if you let the nationalism left to its own devices you’ll have progressively worse debuffs.

Nationalism is the countdown. It grows when you anger them, walk back devolution, or drag them into a war. Hit the top and they hold a referendum you have to answer.

Agitation decides how that goes. Reject them calm: protests and economic damage. Reject them furious: car bombings and a shot at revolt. Accept them calm: you devolve on your terms and keep control. Accept them furious: you devolve on theirs. Sit on the fence and commit to nothing, and you get the devolution fallout to match. The Devolution System

That is what we have for now for the United Kingdom. Thank you for reading and thank you for being patient with us while we worked on the mod to make it as good as it can be. Stay tuned for our next couple of dev diaries. I am sure you are just going to love it!
